The 83rd annual Academy Awards, put on by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, considered to be the biggest night in Hollywood (film and fashion), was in full swing last Sunday. Aside from wanting to stare at James Franco’s lovely face all night, nothing excited me more than to see what everyone was wearing! Immediately after watching all my favorite designers from The Front Row during fashion week (aka behind my Mac in PJ's), I was ever so eager to see what new styles the A-list celebrities would be sashaying in on the red carpet. My pre- Oscars preparation included a trip to the salon where I got my hair cut and styled. Why? I’m not sure, but I think subconsciously I wanted to feel better about my appearance as I watched the flawless stars arrive in their custom designed dresses, fitted to perfection. Some of my favorite looks included:
Gwyneth Paltrow, in Calvin Klein Collection, with Louis Vuitton jewels |
Cate Blanchett, in Givenchy Haute Couture, with Van Cleef & Arpels jewels |
Mila Kunis, in Elie Saab Couture, with Neil Lane jewels |
Michelle Williams, in Chanel Haute Couture, with Harry Winston jewels |
Scarlett Johansson, in Dolce & Gabbana, with Anna Hu jewels |
Pregnant Natalie Portman, in Rodarte, with Tiffany & Co. jewels and Jimmy Choo Shoes All above pictures are from Harper's Bazaar |
I love Natalie and was so happy she won Best Actress, starring in The Black Swan. The Black Swan definitely captures a spot on my top movie favorites.
Besides the amazing fashion, the show itself, was......a little awkward. Awkward is honestly the first word that comes to mind. My love for James and Anne wasn't enough for me to overlook the forced jokes and not- so-hott chemistry between the two. James looked very disconnected and some even suggested fresh off the maryjane (wouldn't you be too.. in front of a million viewers?). Anne tried desperately pick up the slack by doing some singing jig and being overly enthusiastic in comparison to glassy- eyed James. Also, they thought it'd be a good Idea for James to dress is drag. I can see the humor, but again... it was just awkward and a little unsettling.
I get the whole trying to appeal to younger audiences, but I think they should have went a more classic route and had a comedian host. I still watched it..
On a lighter note, I too, also picked out a dress to wear to the Oscars, if somehow I miraculously had a last minute invite..

I love, love, love this gown that demonstrates Versace's take on embellishment with feathers.
Oh and last minute shout- out to Jennifer Hudson for looking better than ever on the red carpet!!
